See the colorful fall foliage of three states on this cruise on the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers. Relax on the Sky Deck as you pass though color-drenched hills, breathtaking bluffs and quaint river towns. Tour Underground Railroad sites and visit the Revolutionary War battleground of Fort Randolph. You’ll love this river adventure!
Day 1—Cincinnati: Our barging adventure begins in Cincinnati, the “Queen City of the West”. You’ll meet the other members of our group at a friendly welcome luncheon, then we’ll all head down to the riverfront to board the River Explorer, America’s only “floating hotel” and our home for the next seven nights.
Day 2—Ripley: Today we’ll enjoy the splendor of autumn on the beautiful Ohio River. You’ll feast your eyes on color-drenched hills, breathtaking bluffs, quaint river towns and more.
We’ll pass through the huge Meldahl Lock, then dock at the pretty town of Ripley, Ohio. Here, we’ll tour the Rankin House, a station on the famous Underground Railroad.
Day 3—River Cruising: Savor the slow, relaxing cruise toward our next stop, Point Pleasant, West Virginia. You’ll enjoy more splendid river scenery—plus the fascinating Greenup and Robert Byrd Locks.
Day 4—Point Pleasant/Charleston: This morning we’ll discover the past at Point Pleasant’s River Museum, plus tour the Revolutionary War battle site of Fort Randolph.
We’ll end the day traveling the Kanawha River, with a passage through Winfield Lock, to West Virginia’s charming capital city of Charleston.
Day 5—New River Gorge: Today we’ll take a fascinating motorcoach ride through the dramatic New River Gorge—then take in a thrilling view from the Canyon Rim Visitor's Center.
Day 6—River Cruising: Another day of enchanting river adventure. Relax on the Sky Deck—it offers fabulous views, not to mention a walking track, exercise room, hot tub and shuffleboard court. You’ll also enjoy a unique view of the breathtaking fall foliage.
Day 7—Augusta: Take a step back in time as you stroll through this scenic 18th-century riverfront town. Join a historic walking tour. Learn about the town, its people and their courageous part in the legendary Underground Railroad. Then have fun exploring the shops and treat yourself to some delicious ice cream.
Day 8—Cincinnati: We’ll disembark in Cincinnati today, where you’ll enjoy a city tour before beginning your journey home. You’re sure to have many pleasant memories of your Autumn Adventure—and plenty of gorgeous pictures to share with friends and family!
